I’m both surprised and grateful to find myself included — from 2021 to 2024 — in the global ranking compiled by Stanford University, identifying the top 2% most influential scientists worldwide. This recognition is based on a bibliometric analysis of citation impact, using data from Scopus.
What is the Stanford Ranking?
The so-called « Stanford Ranking » is an independent study led by Stanford University (USA), in collaboration with Elsevier. It highlights the world’s most-cited researchers across all disciplines, using robust bibliometric indicators.
How is it calculated?
The analysis is based on Scopus data and considers multiple criteria, including:
- Total number of citations (excluding self-citations)
- h-index (a measure of productivity and impact)
- hm-index (a modified h-index)
- Author position (first author, last author, etc.)
- A composite score to ensure a balanced evaluation across disciplines
Two Rankings Available:
- Career-long impact ranking: covering the researcher’s entire career
- Annual ranking: focused only on the past year’s citations
Why does this matter?
This recognition contributes to the international visibility of researchers with significant scientific impact. It’s also a useful reference for institutions looking to highlight the work of their scholars.
Final Thought
A heartfelt thank you to all my collaborators — many of whom aren’t on the list, yet have been instrumental in every step of the journey. This recognition is ours to share.
